Women’s Services and Family Planning

Traditional Medicaid covers a wide range of women’s health and family planning services. Covered services include, but are not limited to:

  • Wellness visits
  • Care for chronic conditions
  • Preventive and screening services, such as:
    • Cancer screenings
    • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Behavioral health services
  • Pregnancy and postpartum care
  • Family planning services, including:
    • Birth control (contraception)
    • Sterilization and hysterectomy procedures
    • Laboratory services
  • Genetic testing
  • Physical therapy, including pelvic floor therapy

Pregnancy and Postpartum Services

Medicaid provides coverage for pregnant individuals through the Pregnant Woman program. Coverage begins the date the application is submitted and continues through 12 months after the pregnancy ends. Once approved, coverage lasts for the full eligibility period.

The Pregnant Woman program includes full medical coverage during pregnancy and postpartum. Covered services include pregnancy-related care and other Medicaid-covered services through the end of the 12th month after the pregnancy ends.

Additional covered services include, but are not limited to:

  • Global maternity care
  • Doula services
  • Breast pumps
  • Group prenatal and postpartum education
  • Perinatal care coordination
  • Prenatal and postpartum home visits
  • Chiropractic care
  • Dental care
  • Vision care

Doula Services

Doula services provide non-medical support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This includes:

  • Education and information
  • Emotional support
  • Physical comfort during labor (such as massage and positioning techniques)
  • Continuous support during labor
  • Help communicating with healthcare providers

Approved Doula Training Programs

Doulas applying through the certification pathway must complete training through one of the following approved organizations:
