Hospital Presumptive Eligibility

Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) is temporary medical coverage (Medicaid) for low-income individuals who qualify. There are five Medicaid programs available under HPE:

• Child Medicaid, ages 0-5
• Child Medicaid, ages 6-18
• Parent/Caretaker Relative
• Pregnant Woman Medicaid
• Former Utah Foster Care Children

HPE covers the same services that regular Medicaid covers with the exception of the 'Pregnant Woman' program. HPE 'Pregnant Woman' covers pregnancy related outpatient services only.  
While in the hospital, individuals can apply through any local hospital that accepts HPE applications. 
Individuals may only receive HPE once per calendar year or once per pregnancy.
